Everyone knows of the infamous phrase: “I’ll be back”. It is one that is inextricably linked to Arnold Schwarzenegger and his portrayal of a cyborg assassin in the 1984 movie The Terminator.
The thing about Arnold is that his acting skills have never really been very good.
I hail from the small town of Benoni. The same prestigious little place that the gorgeous blonde bombshell’s Charlize Theron and Charlene Woodstock originate from. Of course, that is not all that Benoni is known for.
Other than Benoni’s landmark mine dumps and scenic lake-view vista’s, the small little town is renowned for people who religiously choose to continuously dress like they are stuck in an episode of MacGuyver.
Their most notable trademark? The “Benoni Pony” – also known as a ‘mullet’.
Six months. That is how long I have neglected my blog. This was not meant to be the plan for 2012. 2012 was supposed to be the year of the blog for me. Alas, other priorities continuously took preference over sitting down and writing. I want this rut to change, I want to write. All I need to do now is, well, to do it.
I’m back, again.Read More
Today, I officially submitted my Masters thesis.
I am finally done.
I almost shed a tear before leaving the local PostNet. It felt like I was leaving behind a part of myself. I was suitably, and still am, a bit emotional about it.
“Three Apples changed the world: One seduced Eve, One awakened Newton and One fell into the hands of Steve Jobs”
Steve Jobs has passed away.
My sincerest condolences to his family.
That’s right folks U2 is here and, believe it or not (I still cannot), I was privileged enough to crack an elusive invitation to an exclusive behind the scenes look at the inner workings of the U2 360° Tour.
Warner Brothers Pictures and Legendary Pictures confirmed the casting decision in a joint statement on the 30th January 2011. Zack Snyder of 300 is also said to be directing this umpteenth reboot of the Superman film franchise..
Seriously though, who saw that coming?Read More
To be precise, U2 will be performing to a sold out crown of sweaty palmed South Africans in exactly 300 hours from the time of this post (yes, I worked it out).
The best part? You could win a set of double tickets to either the Johannesburg or Cape Town shows as well as other incredible prizes.Read More
Anyone with a modern mobile device knows how much of a bane and a blessing the autocorrect feature can be when typing out text messages, emails, notes and so on.
Often the autocorrect feature will change perfect text, without rhyme or reason, and before you realise the error, you have already hit send.
These ‘corrections’ almost always result in a bevy of hilarious, if not mortifying, messages to friends, loved ones, strangers or colleagues.
Consequently, the Internet is a buzz with this latest meme.
Granted, this may not always be possible. To err is to be human after all. But it is important to me that I at least try to always remain positive.
So when I discovered the science behind why the glass is always full, I immediately felt that I needed to share it with all of you.Read More
For those who do not know, Vocab101 is my daily attempt to find a new and interesting word which could potentially be used in everyday circumstances. The words I find range from the obscene, to the unbelievably true (which are hyperlinked in blue) and, of course, the colloquial. Thus, Hans’ Milieu now has a ‘Wordy Wednesday’.
Each Hans’ Milieu edition of Vocab101 will take place on Wordy Wednesdays and will usually contain words which I have tweeted over the course of one week from the previous Vocab101 session (7 days, 7 new words). Furthermore, each Hans’ Milieu edition of Vocab101 will contain additional new words which did not make the original cut, but are just as tantalising/disturbing!
Time and time again I am asked how I managed to obtain access to a US iTunes store account. Well, the answer is fairly simple. I just created one.
I know what you are thinking: “How the heck did he do that”?Read More
Thursday 19 August 2010 marked the launch of the highly secretive yet painfully brilliant Girl Guides website.
A new trend has emerged. That of turning your beloved canine friend into a mobile work of ‘art’. I use the term ‘art’ loosely here, of course.
Essentially people are cutting and dying the hair of poodles and other unfortunately fluffy dogs, to resemble other creatures, such as Panda’s, Pirates and Fairy’s. It is as crazy as it sounds and the results are just as mind numbingly hilarious.Read More
